Who is Brian Douglas?

Brian Douglas, who was born in England, is an aid worker with vast experience in Eastern Europe and the voluntary director of RCHF in Romania, The Republic of Moldova and Serbia, plus is a founder member of Stitchting RCHF. Brian, who is a multi lingual speaker of several languages, is registered with the Romanian Government authorities, Police and British Embassy as a Humanitarian aid worker.

After discovering the poor conditions in the country in the early 1990’s, Brian decided that boxes of consumable aid were not enough and moved to Romania to provide hands on daily voluntary work in an old style state orphanage for 3 years, caring for mentally ill children, followed by working in a state Hospital section for children and adults with Tuberculosis, Aids/HIV and Hepatitis for 5 years. Since then, Brian has worked in the field of preventative health education & raising the standards of community life.

“The voluntary work we do here in Romania and The Republic of Moldova & Serbia helps so many people achieve a better quality of life, including a better future for children. At RCHF we give serious support and work hard to help resolve issues that effect the children, who are the country’s future. Today’s young people deserve better chances than their parents had in communist times. We provide real help, opportunities and ideas in education. Without health education the result has been a nation of children, who in many cases, are needlessly interned in hospitals for long periods of time, whereas with good sensible health education, hundreds of thousands of children, not to mention adults and pensioners could have avoided becoming ill in the first place…”

Who is Miriam Charmant?

Miriam Charmant is Simone's mother and took over Simone's function of chairwoman in 2010. Simone has lived and worked in Romania for some years. Through her work Miriam came in contact with Brian Douglas and RCHF. Miriam has worked with children in the Netherlands herself and is working on a new project: Timmetje Muis, who is called Mr. Mouse in Romania. In children's books and illustrations this Mouse doesn't only want to just tell a happy story, it also wants to teach the children something about different subjects. In Romania for example, Mr. Mouse tteaches children about basic hygiene. It is a strong wish and believe, to achieve goals together that may improve life conditions of those in need. RCHF really makes a difference in many lives. This is why I value our cooperation and hope to contribute to the future of RCHF.
